Who's the sellout now?

Wow.

So as I've mentioned before, I am drawn to and have been enjoying the new judges on American Idol - and apparently, so has the general listening public, as sales for Aerosmith music have gone through the roof since he began appearing on the show. (both CD sales and digital downloads...)

And to think that his bandmates were critical of the move!

You can read more about that here. No word yet on how appearing on AI has had an impact on sales for JLo...She should probably start singing some of her hits on the air too...!

I sure never thought Steven Tyler was a sell-out, and I'm not hip enough to know or to care who did. I do know I have always found him to be delightful and self-deprecating, and he's continuing that on Idol. Last night, I saw Simon, no last name needed, on ET or similar, and he said the show was too nice. While I miss his sabre wit, I admit to enjoying the show much more now--there is a kindness to it, but it's not yet turned into "Up With People," so I'm good with it.

I'm not glued to it, so I wonder, has any contestant tried out with an Aerosmith song?

Yep - and not only that, but he's been singing along with them at times - and there's a direct correlation to those songs being on the show and then being downloaded...

One contestant tonight sang "Dream On" after his first song and he was pretty darned good. I'm loving Steven Tyler so far. I've read the reports of Aerosmith music selling well and I'm thinking that Idol's teen viewers may not have ever heard of him before this, so the music is new to them. If I had an iPod, I'd download it myself.

I too miss Simon's wit, but I don't miss how his words could sometimes hurt someone who, while they weren't Idol material, could carry a tune. Nor do I miss his disparaging comments about how people looked. He did seem to go for the "pretty people." Yes, Tyler does like the cute girls, but he doesn't pass people through just because of their physical assets nor does he hold someone back who is just normal.
