American Idol - week 2 (Electric Boogaloo)

Another strong week of content from American Idol auditions, and I think I can safely say that I'm in for the long haul.

I was moved by the level of talent exuded from from extremely young new artists, and I am enjoying the chemistry of the judges. What's not to like about Jennifer Lopez, right? Kristi thinks I like her only because she's beautiful. But I think that's way off track - I think it's more about the fact that she's really pretty, and so then listening am can I do okay.

Steven Tyler is not pretty or beautiful to me, but he's human and sensible in an surprising down-to-earth way.

I still think that they are passing through way too many average vocalists, and so it makes me wonder how much time they're going to spend in Hollywood - because there are way too many (that they're showing) who are getting through who wouldn't have in years past.

They are hitting home runs with the poignant and moving and emotional contestants on American Idol. Chris Medina's story was almost too much too bear. You can read more about it here, particularly how some cynics are blogging that the tragic story has overshadowed his mediocre audition, but I don't think so. Especially considering my earlier note regarding the passing through of average vocalists - they have at least been consistent in this, even if it's different than in previous years...

Chris has been telling his story through song for a while now. Check out his song he posted on the day he was supposed to marry his fiance. Pretty powerful.

So, who are your early favorites?

I don't have an early favorite but I agree about the judges. The other night they were amazing with Chris Medina's fiance. Growing up with my brother Mike, you get used to people staring and really only seeing the chair and not the person. For some it's because they don't know what to say or how to act. All 3 judges touched my heart on Wednesday but especially Steven. None of them saw the chair. They all saw the woman. When Steven bent down to talk to her and stroked her hair, forget it - I was in tears. I don't like the way some people were talking about Chris and his story but you know, some people just enjoy being mean. If they lived the life that young woman lives now, they would realize just what that day meant to her and her family. It was beautiful and I will remember it for a long time.

I only watched one episode this week, but I continue to love Steven Tyler. He is so normal and so out there at the same time. Jennifer is beautiful, and she's nice. And those are two good things to be!

As we watched Chris Medina, we cried. Brad kept saying, "He's another Adam." You know my friend Vicki died in November, and for two years her boyfriend Adam stood by her. He met her when she had leukemia, and he never left her. They would have married, but she needed really great insurance, and he is a graduate student/T.A.

So I sent him the link, and turns out Adam likes Chris too...
